Why do cats meow?

Even a small cat knows and imitates cat sounds. This 'meow', which is different from others, is not just a simple cat sound. It's actually a surprisingly complex method of communication; So why do cats meow?

You can learn a lot about your cat by paying attention to this meow.

In fact, a cat's voice, like that of any human, is an individual characteristic. You may have a cat that makes almost no noise, or you may have an extremely chatty cat. Different breeds will likewise make different meowing sounds. Siamese cats, for example, are especially famous for their ear-shattering screams.

Look at me!

The most common type of meowing is when the cat shouts in a touching way to attract attention. The general situation in the environment can provide many things to help determine the reason for your cat's meowing. If he's wandering around the kitchen, he probably wants food. If your cat meows when you just get home, she's probably just happy to see you and wants to be petted or held.

The welcome meow is also related to mating, especially when repeated repeatedly. A cat in heat will meow constantly to announce her presence to males. In some cats, this meowing can turn into a long moaning at all hours of the day and night.

When a cat sees the prey it wants to capture, it will sometimes make a strange squeaking or even bleating-like noise. No one is exactly sure why cats do this. Some suggest it is a simple cat sound that indicates anticipation or tension, much like a person clicking their lips. Some people think that this strange sound is a tactic used by the cat to deceive its prey.

Growling, spitting, hissing and making scream-like sounds are aggressive or defensive cries. This is mostly obvious when your cat is hungry or scared. Similarly, the sound it produces requires some explanation. Your cat is simply content.

It should be noted that if you have a calm cat that suddenly starts meowing, or a noisy cat that suddenly stops making sounds, this may indicate that there is something wrong with your cat. You should pay special attention to cats that start meowing constantly while using the litter box, cleaning themselves, or eating food. These may be signs that your cat is in some sort of distress.

Listen to the sound your cat makes and enjoy it. He wants you to understand him.
