Adopting an Adult Cat

In the case of an adult cat, you will immediately be able to get a very good idea of ÔÇőÔÇőthe cat's temperament. A kitten's behavior when it is young can change dramatically as it grows (and not always for the better). An adult cat's personality will be more consistent, and you can evaluate any personality traits and behavioral tendencies through its interaction with the shelter team.

make it easy

Frankly, another reason to get an adult cat instead of a kitten is that adult cats are less work. A lot of attention is needed to get kittens active and keep them out of trouble. For a person who does not have the time or energy to keep a kitten occupied, it will probably be much easier to adopt an adult cat.

Adult cats in shelters are rarely there because of the cats themselves or their personalities. Often, the living conditions of the owners have changed or allergy problems have emerged in the first home that became their home. These are generally friendly, friendly cats who enjoy joining a new family.

Personality

The first thing you should consider when adopting a cat is whether its personality will suit you well. The shelter team will be able to give you useful ideas about the cat's temperament. These people can tell you whether this cat is good with other animals or is better off alone. He or she may also be able to tell if the cat is extremely gregarious or has a more relaxed personality. If you're adopting a new cat into a home that already has cats and dogs, you should look for a cat that has lived with other animals before. Any cat, regardless of background, will be happier in a nice home than in a shelter.

get to know each other

Do not forget to take time to be alone with the cat or cats you want to take home. Ask the shelter staff if there is a quiet place outside the foster home where you can be with the cat. Being at the shelter can be extremely stressful and scary for the cat; so it may take a few minutes for him to calm down and let you see his true personality.

Most shelters will already have a thorough health check and the cat is likely to be up to date on all of its vaccinations and previously neutered. However, you should still examine the cat from nose to tail, trying to detect any health problems.

Check between the lines

Some shelters require you to sign a contract when you are ready to adopt. Be sure to read this agreement completely . It may contain some conditions, such as the fact that the cat cannot be given as a gift. If you plan to give the cat as a gift, you should make arrangements for the future adopter to visit the shelter and participate in the adoption process.

In general, you should get the cat (or cats) that gives you the strongest sense of attraction. We wish you good luck and congratulations for the new member joining your family.
