The simple advice I give to dog owners about what they should use to walk their dogs is to use leashes instead of leashes. I have seen time and time again that transitioning a dog from a leash to a comfortable harness produces rapid and positive effects. It's worth trying!

The dog harness does not put any pressure on the sensitive neck area. Constant neck and throat pressure is associated with issues that can lead to back and neck problems, thyroid damage, and eye problems. Swedish behaviorist Anders Hallgren conducted a study on 400 dogs and found neck and spinal cord injuries in 63%. He observed that leash pulling particularly affected the dog's neck and throat, and that the muscles that relieved the pressure were mostly on the sides of the neck.

If the dog moves or accelerates quickly while wearing the collar, the risk of self-harm is reduced. Even if the dog does not pull, there is always the possibility of the leash pulling in an unexpected situation.

Because of the tension and discomfort caused by a collar, dogs often begin to walk more comfortably when they switch to a harness.

The impact of human error is reduced. When people are nervous, rushed, or just starting to walk their dog, they may naturally tighten and/or pull on the lead. With a harness, the effect of this tension on the dog is reduced and thus, no harm is done while developing skills. This is especially important for puppies because it takes time for them to learn to walk politely.
5. Avoid Negative Connotations
In order for dogs to learn, as much oxygen as possible must reach the brain. Throat pressure with a leash jeopardizes this situation. If they become anxious about something and their response (aggression, flight, etc.) matches the discomfort they feel when the leash is tightened, that discomfort may be associated with the thing they were initially afraid of.
Maintain Communication Skills
When we influence a dog's head movements, we influence their ability to communicate effectively with other dogs. A harness allows the dog to use body language more easily.
